Young Writers Studio: Summer Writers Room
One Story. Multiple Teams. Endless Possibilities.
This summer, we're trying something new.
Inspired by the ideas and dreams of our very first Young Writers Studio, Summer Writers' Room is a four-week collaborative storytelling experience where young writers work together in small creative teams to imagine, write, revise, and celebrate original stories.
Rather than sitting through lessons or writing alone, writers will spend their time brainstorming ideas, building unforgettable characters, solving story problems, giving one another feedback, and discovering what it feels like to create as part of a real writers' room.
Whether your child loves fantasy, mystery, realistic fiction, graphic novels, or simply has a great imagination, she'll have the opportunity to collaborate with other young writers who share her interests.
Why Families Love Young Writers Studio
This isn't a traditional writing class.
It's a creative community.
Young Writers Studio is a place where writers find their voices, encourage one another, take creative risks, and discover the joy of bringing stories to life together.
As one of our writers shared,
- "It's a great place for young people to create amazing stories/books and share with each other." — Vera, Young Writers Studio Participant
A couple others wrote,
"You can write whatever comes to your mind, and you can feel like you belong with everyone else." — Anya, Young Writers Studio Participant
"I feel safe to write what I want to write and feel good about it." — Alsa, Young Writers Studio Participant
That sense of belonging is at the heart of everything we do!
What Makes Summer Writers' Room Different?
Each writer will join a small creative team where she'll help shape an original story from beginning to end.
I'll provide coaching, writing strategies, and support throughout the process, but the ideas, decisions, and stories will belong to the writers. This experience is designed to foster creativity, collaboration, communication, and confidence while allowing young writers to learn from one another in an authentic creative environment.
During Our Time Together, Writers Will...
- Pitch story ideas
- Form small writing teams around shared interests
- Build original worlds and memorable characters
- Write scenes together
- Give and receive encouraging feedback
- Revise and strengthen their stories
- Celebrate their finished work together
